Why Accumulating Bitcoin Matters
As some of you already know, I love building reserves for the future, and I truly believe Bitcoin is an important part of that future 🚀.
I'm not trying to write yet another post about what Bitcoin is; I'll leave that as homework (see the end of this page). There's plenty of information online, or one day you can invite me to breakfast 😝. What I want is to remind you that it's important to understand what it is and, if it convinces you, to start accumulating a little.
Officially, on March 19, 2026, I started Jueves de Satoshi (Satoshi Thursdays): a weekly experiment in which I'll put $1,000 MXN into Bitcoin. Whatever that buys, no more, no less.
By my count, there are 42 Thursdays left in 2026 (including the first one), so in theory I'd accumulate $42,000 MXN in Bitcoin, which comes to about 3.3% of one Bitcoin at the starting prices. It'll be interesting to see whether the experiment falls short or manages to beat that percentage by the end of the year.
For this experiment, I'm buying through Aureo Bitcoin and sending my purchases via Lightning to a Wallet of Satoshi wallet.
Why this purchase setup?
- I think it's an easy way to accumulate, without the hassle of exchanges or hardware wallets. Important: if you're going to accumulate Bitcoin seriously, you should learn how to take custody of your own wallets.
- Aureo charges a 1% fee that already includes every cost and sends your purchase to your wallet (via Lightning or on-chain): a reliable service with simple math.
- I'm accumulating Bitcoin over Lightning because at the end of the year I may split what I've accumulated across different accounts. It's something I've been considering, so I think it's a good option. If it weren't for that, I'd rather have my purchases sent on-chain.
Each purchase is published with its "witnesses" (screenshots of the transaction) in the experiment's thread on X, and recorded on this site's public dashboard.
📚 The homework
My suggestion is that you start your own research so you can answer these questions:
- What is bitcoin?
- What is the maximum number of bitcoins that can ever exist?
- How is bitcoin created?
- Who invented it?
- Where is it stored?
- What is the smallest unit of bitcoin called?
- What is the difference between on-chain and Lightning bitcoin?
- Why would it go up in value?
- What makes it different from fiat money?
Start the journey 🚀
